At DMR Law, we regularly represent internationally acclaimed artists, actors, musicians, and entrepreneurs in securing O-1, EB-1, EB-2 NIW, and other extraordinary ability or investor-based visas. While many of our clients have achieved global recognition, the success stories we highlight here reflect some of the more complex or unconventional cases we’ve handled—those that demonstrate not only our deep expertise in immigration law but also our ability to creatively advocate for clients whose talent or impact might not fit neatly into traditional molds.
P-1 visas are non-immigrant visas for internationally recognized athletes, entertainers, and performers who are coming to the United States temporarily to participate in specific events, competitions, or performances.
There are two main types:
- P-1A visa: For individual athletes or athletic teams who are recognized internationally and are coming to compete in the U.S. at a high level.
- P-1B visa: For members of internationally recognized entertainment groups who are coming to perform in the U.S. as part of a scheduled event or tour.
Support staff—like coaches, trainers, or crew—may also be eligible for a related visa to accompany the main visa holder.
This visa is typically granted for the duration of the event, competition, or performance, with possible extensions.
- P1A (International Basketball Player) – Obtained P-1A visa for a Latvian professional basketball player with extensive experience in top-tier leagues across Europe, the NBA G League, and international competitions. We demonstrated his eligibility by highlighting his prior NBA draft selection, participation in the FIBA World Cup and EuroBasket tournaments with the Latvian national team, and endorsements from recognized governing bodies — establishing his reputation as an internationally acclaimed athlete competing at the highest level of performance.
- P1B (Artist Supporting Cast) – Obtained P-1B visas for four members of the touring and creative team supporting Latin superstar in urban industry, including a backup vocalist, choreographic director, musical director/DJ, and head of security. We demonstrated that each beneficiary had been an integral part of an internationally recognized entertainment group for over a year, contributing specialized skills essential to the execution of high-level tours and live performances across the U.S., Europe, and Latin America. The petition was supported by extensive documentation of their roles in world tours, award shows, and international media productions.
